Fund Profile

Stored public background and source notes.

Background

Fidelity was founded in 1946 by Edward Johnson II. The platform includes Magellan (made famous by Peter Lynch, 1977–1990), Contrafund (Will Danoff since 1990), the former Low-Priced Stock fund (Joel Tillinghast through 2023), Blue Chip Growth, and dozens of sector and target-date funds. The 13F aggregates all of them.

Key People

  • Abigail Johnson Chairman and CEO, FMR LLC

Granddaughter of founder Edward Johnson; firm-level leader, not a PM.

  • Will Danoff PM, Fidelity Contrafund

Manager since 1990; one of the longest tenures in U.S. mutual funds.

Track Record / Style

Use FMR for breadth and ownership weight rather than for stock picks. The cleanest single-PM signal is Will Danoff at Contrafund (long-standing large holder of Berkshire, Meta, Amazon, and Nvidia). Magellan under Lynch returned roughly 29%/year for 13 years and remains a benchmark for active long-only records.
